"All American Girl" Margaret Cho -- whose six-week engagement at Off Broadway's Westbeth Theatre Center turned into an 11-week, sold-out stand -- will take her show, I'm the One That I Want, on a 15-city tour beginning Sept. 24. The first stop will be the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. The new York engagement ends Sept. 4 after 18 previews and 37 regular performances.
Following the D.C. dates, Cho plans to take the piece to Houston, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle and Chicago. The six-month tour will conclude in February 2000. For a complete schedule, visit the web site www.margaretcho.net.
San Francisco native Cho became prominent with TV's "All American Girl," which made her the first Asian-American with her own sitcom. Other appearances have included "Politically Incorrect," "Leno," "Letterman," "Rosie" and "Oprah." Cho, making her theatrical debut, has titled her new piece, "I'm the One That I Want."
The Westbeth has served as the starting place for several Off-Broadway and Broadway shows within the last two years, including Sandra Bernhard's I'm Still Here, Damn It!, Thwak and Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
