The last May day is Oct. 1 at Sacramento's B Street Theatre. May is a person, not a month, in Norm Foster's romantic comedy, The Affections of May, which began performances Aug. 20. Amy Resnick directs.

In Affections, bed and breakfast proprietress May Henning finds herself in a bad way when her husband deserts her idyllic country home for the big city and the arms of his old flame. When news gets around the small town where she resides that May's single, two local men, a clumsy banker and a Scrabble-playing handy man, come a-courtin', only adding to her problems.

The play made its debut in 1990 and quickly became the Canada's most produced comedy of 1991. Considered Canada's Neil Simon, Foster is also the author of The Motor Trade, The Melville Boys, Wrong for Each Other and A Foggy Day.

New York actress Antoinette LaVecchia (Goldberg Variations, "Jesus' Son") stars as May with Greg Alexander as the banker Hank, Scott Jones as husband Brian and David Warshovky as handy man Quinn.
