The Ensemble Theatre Company (of Santa Barbara, CA)'s production of Marivaux's The Game of Love and Chance, ends its month-long run Jan. 3.

"Marivaux's plays all combine joy and ebullience with a savagely acute perception of how people operate," said translator Wadsworth.

The story involves Orgon, who "has arranged to marry his daughter Silvia to the nobleman Dorante. However, far from being a harsh father, he wants this to be a love match for his daughter," said a company spokesperson. "To make sure Dorante is the right choice and since the young people have never met, Silvia exchanges places with her maid Lisette. At the same time, Dorante arrives disguised as his valet, Harlequin, in order to observe Silvia."

Peter Lackner directs Ben Bottoms and Dena Anderson as Harlequin and Silvia, respectively. Others in the cast include Rudolph Willrich, Jason Michael Spelbring, Daisy Nystul and Jason Cottle.
