How appropriate that her latest work, a collaboration with composer Roberto Sierra, is titled Terra Incognita. This "new opera for the theatre" opened Off-Broadway at the INTAR Theatre March 26 and will close on its scheduled final matinee, April 13.

Directed by Fornes, the musical follows three young American tourists making a cultural exploration of the Americas through space and time. Fornes is an eight-time Obie Award winner and author of such works as Fefu And Her Friends, The Widow, Abingdon Square, The Conduct Of Life and Sarita.

Stephen Gosling serves as musical director for the piece, which stars Jennifer Alagna, Lawrence Craig, John Muriello, Candace Rogers O'Connor and Matthew Perri. Van Santvoord, Willa Kim (Will Rogers Follies) and Philip Widmer are, respectively, the set, costume and lighting designers.

A co-production of INTAR and The Women's Project & Productions, Terra Incognita began previews March 19. INTAR specifically seeks to present works by new Latino artists; The Women's Project promotes the work of women playwrights and directors.
