"Walking back to their apartment one night, Sam and Molly are mugged, leaving Sam murdered on a dark street. Sam is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next and unable to leave Molly who he learns is in grave danger. Warrior Class (Off-Broadway at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre). Louis Ozawa Changchien, Katharine Powell and David Rasche star in the world premiere of Kenneth Lin's Warrior Class, part of Second Stage Theatre's Uptown Series. "When Assemblyman Julius Lee [Changchien] makes a bid for Congress, the ghosts of his college days come back to haunt him," according to Second Stage. End of the Rainbow (Broadway at the Belasco Theatre). End Of The Rainbow, Peter Quilter's play with music about the final days of Judy Garland, stars 2012 Tony Award nominee Tracie Bennett. Here's how the drama is described: "It's December 1968 and Judy Garland is poised to make a triumphant comeback...again. The drama unfolds in a London hotel room as she prepares for a series of concerts at the famed 'Talk of the Town' nightclub. Dogfight (Off-Broadway at Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre). Dogfight, which marks the New York City debut of rising songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, stars Lindsay Mendez and Derek Klena in an unlikely love story based on the feature film of the same name. Here's how Second Stage bills the new musical: "It's Nov. 21, 1963. On the eve of their deployment to a small but growing conflict in Southeast Asia, three young Marines set out for one final boys' night of debauchery, partying, and maybe a little trouble. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace [Klena] meets Rose [Mendez], an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of compassion." Soul Doctor (Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop). Soul Doctor, a guest production at NYTW, features Eric Anderson and Erica Ash. Here's how the production is billed: "Soul Doctor tells the story of the beloved yet controversial father of popular Jewish music, rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and explores his unlikely friendship with the 'High Priestess of Soul' Nina Simone. Beginning with his childhood escape from Nazi Germany, the show takes us on a musical odyssey through the challenges and triumphs of this cultural phenomenon, as he becomes a rabbinical prodigy in America, discovers Gospel and Soul music during his friendship with Simone, and has a meteoric rise as a 'Rock Star Rabbi' in the 1960s, performing with Bob Dylan, Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. The Nutty Professor (Nashville, TN, at the James K. Polk Theater in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center). The world premiere of The Nutty Professor, the new Rupert Holmes-Marvin Hamlisch musical based on the 1963 Jerry Lewis film comedy, stars Michael Andrew in the title role. In the new show, as in the film that starred Lewis, "Professor Julius Kelp is a dull geek with a bright idea," according to production notes. "Privately experimenting in his laboratory to find the cure for his social failures, he creates a potion that transforms him into a smooth talking, party animal named Buddy Love. Buddy is everything that Julius always dreamed of being and gets the girl that he always dreamed of dating, Stella. The only problem is that the potion doesn't last very long.
