Richard III (Off-Broadway at the Public Theater). William Shakespeare's Richard III stars Ron Cephas Jones in the title role. According to the Public, "Richard III tells the story of one of Shakespeare's most charismatic villains who cuts a scorched-earth swath through the politicos, power-mongers, and even family members who stand between him and the crown. National Pastime (Off-Broadway at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre). The new Off-Broadway musical National Pastime stars Leo Ash Evens, Kelli Maguire, Gil Brady and Janice Landry. According to the authors, "National Pastime tells the story of WZBQ, a radio station in 1933 Iowa that is on the verge of bankruptcy. To spark ratings, the folks at the station invent a fictional, unbeatable baseball team and begin to broadcast phony baseball games as though real. Sister Act (Broadway at the Broadway Theatre). Sister Act, the Tony Award-nominated musical based on the 1992 film of the same title, stars Raven-Symoné as Deloris Van Cartier and Tony nominee Carolee Carmello as Mother Superior. According to producers, "When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place cops are sure she won't be found — a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community, but in doing so blows her cover.
