The Heiress (Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre). Written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz, The Heiress is directed by Tony Award-nominated playwright and director Moisés Kaufman and stars Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain as Catherine Sloper, Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner David Strathairn as Dr. Austin Sloper and "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens as Morris Townsend. The play, inspired by the Henry James novel "Washington Square," is the tale of Catherine Sloper (Chastain), the shy and sheltered daughter of a prominent New Yorker in mid-19th-century New York City. "Caught between the demands of an emotionally distant father (Strathairn) and the attentions of a passionate young suitor (Stevens), Catherine must navigate the terrain of love and regret, desire and duty, a chance for happiness and the burden of fortune…as only an heiress can," according to the producers. The Beautiful Soup Theater Collective's production of the Arthur Bicknell cult flop Moose Murders features a revised script and is directed by Steven Carl McCasland. Water By the Spoonful (Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre). The Off-Broadway run of 2012 Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Water By the Spoonful, an ensemble drama by Quiara Alegría Hudes, is directed by Davis McCallum. In the play, according to Second Stage, "Elliot returns home to Philadelphia to reconnect with his Puerto Rican family after his time spent serving in Iraq. Upon arriving, he finds his family in flux and his career prospects limited.
