Disaster! A 70s Disaster Movie Musical (Off-Broadway at St. Luke's Theatre). Disaster!, the acclaimed 1970s disaster movie musical comedy, is written by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick with direction by Plotnick and choreography by Denis Jones. "It's 1979 and New York City’s hottest partiers are blowing out their feathered hair and putting on their best polyester threads and platform shoes to head to the grand opening of the Barracuda, Manhattan's first floating casino and discotheque," according to press notes. Jasper in Deadland (Off-Broadway at the West End Theatre in the Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew). The New York premiere of Ryan Scott Oliver and Hunter Foster's Jasper in Deadland — a new musical that follows 16-year-old Jasper as he journeys into the afterlife to save his best friend — stars Matt Doyle and Allison Scagliotti. Also in the cast are Ben Crawford, Andi Alhadeff, Leo Ash Evens, Danyel Fulton, F. Michael Haynie, John-Michael Lyles and Bonnie Milligan. Here's how Jasper in Deadland is billed: "In this original musical, 16-year-old Jasper journeys through the Afterlife on a mission to save his best friend, Agnes. Dinner With Friends (Off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre). The Roundabout Theatre Company production of Donald Margulies' Dinner With Friends stars Jeremy Shamos, Darren Pettie, Marin Hinkle and Heather Burns. According to the Roundabout, "Ever since Karen (Hinkle) and Gabe (Shamos) played matchmaker with their friends Beth (Burns) and Tom (Pettie), the two couples have been inseparable—going to the Vineyard every summer, raising their kids and enjoying countless dinners together. But when one marriage unexpectedly crumbles, the couples' lives begin to veer in opposite directions. A Second Chance, the new musical by Ted Shen that stars husband and wife actors Brian and Diane Sutherland, is directed by Jonathan Butterell. Til Divorce Do Us Part: The Musical (Off-Broadway at the DR2 Theatre). Til Divorce Do Us Part: The Musical is an original musical comedy revue based on the real-life story of Ruthe Ponturo, who wrote the piece while going through her divorce from a Broadway producer. Til Divorce Do Us Part: The Musical, according to press notes, "is inspired by the true story of Ms. Ponturo, a Broadway producer's wife who was unceremoniously dumped by her husband after decades of marriage. Determined to celebrate a new chapter in her life, Ponturo's character turns to her wickedly witty friends, who together sing, dance and laugh their way through the ripple effects of divorce and self-discovery in this musical comedy revue." Appropriate (Off-Broadway at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center). The New York premiere of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' familial drama Appropriate features Maddie Corman, Patch Darragh, Tony Award nominee Johanna Day, Alex Dreier, Mike Faist, Izzy Hanson-Johnston, Sonya Harum and Michael Laurence. "The estranged members of the Lafayette clan have returned to Arkansas and their crumbling old plantation home to settle the accounts of their recently deceased patriarch," press notes state. "As they sort through a lifetime of hoarded mementos and junk, the discovery of a gruesome relic and a surprise visitor send the family into a spiral of crackling confrontations, repressed histories, and regret."
