Concluding Sept. 7

The Opponent (Off-Broadway at 59E59 Theaters). The boxing drama The Opponent marks the first production of A Red Orchid NY. The two-character play features original Chicago cast members Kamal Angelo Bolden and Guy Van Swearingen as Donell and Tre, respectively. The play, according to press notes, "takes a look at the hard scrabble world of boxing from the perspective of a small time gym owner and a young up-and-comer. They come from different worlds, they barely understand each other, but in the ring anything is possible. Questions of loyalty and life's dreams are put to the test in this explosive New York premiere that promises to pull some punches and fearlessly land the others." Visit ARedOrchidNYC.org.

Poor Behavior (Off-Broadway at the Duke on 42nd Street). The Primary Stages production of Theresa Rebeck's Poor Behavior is billed as "a devilish argument about infidelity and America … about two couples spending a not-so-idyllic weekend in the country." The work features Heidi Armbruster, Brian Avers, Jeff Biehl and Katie Kreisler. According to Primary Stages, "What if you made a mistake, years ago, that has destroyed your life, and will continue to destroy your life? Don't you owe it to some higher notion of 'goodness' to fight for your life?" Visit PrimaryStages.org.
