The performance, which originally aired Sept. 18, features Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope. It marked the first Broadway performance on the new late-night show. The appearance also features director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, who teaches host Colbert one of the signature dance moves from the show.
An American in Paris is an adaptation of the classic 1951 movie musical about an American artist who falls in love with a beautiful French ballerina in post-World War II Paris.
Like the film, the show uses songs from the George and Ira Gershwin songbook, with a new libretto by Craig Lucas. Extended ballet sequences are set to George Gershwin's orchestral music.
