Free performances will take place Sept 27 & 28 at Barrow Group Theatre (312 West 36th St).

Set in the fast-paced world of New York City bike messengers, Magpie has a score steeped in the city’s Latin rhythms. Tino and Maggie are star-crossed lovers. Tino is a good kid trying to escape the streets. Maggie can sing all the words to Verdi’s operas but she can’t write her name.

Directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj, with Martin Bejerano as Musical Director, Magpie has a book by Steven M. Jacobson, music by Gary William Friedman and lyrics by Edward Gallardo.

Gary William Friedman is best known for the OBIE Award-winning, TONY nominated musical The Me Nobody Knows. His other theatre credits include Platinum, Taking My Turn and Sheba.

Edward Gallardo wrote book and lyrics for Selena Forever, Carmen Libre and Fantasma; book for The Petrified Prince and Simpson Street; and lyrics for The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz.
