Laura Benanti, who currently stars in the Broadway revival of She Loves Me, took to Twitter April 8 to announce that she wouldn't be performing in the evening show. The Tony winner posted a photo of a doctor's note, diagnosing her with a contagious virus. “So sorry to be disappointing people,” she wrote.

The role of Amalia Balash will be played by Benanti's understudy, Laura Shoop. A press representative could not confirm whether Benanti would perform over the weekend.

Benanti stars as a salesgirl in a Hungarian parfumerie in the musical comedy, unaware that she is conducting a romantic correspondence with her co-worker, played by Zachary Levi.

The Roundabout Theatre Company production of She Loves Me began previews February 19. The Broadway revival also stars Jane Krakowski, Byron Jennings, Gavin Creel and Michael McGrath.

She Loves Me features a book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and music by Jerry Bock. Musical direction is by Paul Gemignani. Directed by Scott Ellis and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, the classic musical comedy is scheduled to run through July 10 at Studio 54.
