News Lavon Fisher-Wilson Joins Cast of Broadway's Newsies Sept. 11 Lavon Fisher-Wilson, who has been seen on Broadway in Lysistrata Jones, Chicago and The Color Purple, joins the cast of the critically acclaimed new musical Newsies Sept. 11 at the Nederlander Theatre.

Fisher-Wilson steps into the role of Medda Larkin; she succeeds Capathia Jenkins, who played her final performance Sept. 9. Also joining the cast this week are Nicholas Lampiasi and Jake Lucas, who will alternate in the role of Les. Both are making their Broadway debuts.

Newsies was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Book (Harvey Fierstein), Best Score (Jack Feldman and Alan Menken), Best Actor (Jeremy Jordan), Best Direction of a Musical (Jeff Calhoun) and Best Choreography (Christopher Gattelli). It won awards for Best Score and Best Choreography.

The Broadway company of Newsies  also features Corey Cott as Jack Kelly, John Dossett as Joseph Pulitzer, Kara Lindsay as Katherine Plumber, Ben Fankhauser as Davey and Andrew Keenan-Bolger as Crutchie.
