Featuring book, music and lyrics by Matt Prager, She Can't Believe She Said That! "recounts the true story of talk show hostess Kathie Lee Gifford. The show covers a 30-year time span, and, thematically, uses the story of someone often accused of being fake in order to examine the mechanisms by which we define our identities," according to press notes.
Laws, who most recently appeared as Amy in the lauded 2006 revival of Company, has appeared on Broadway in Cabaret and The Boy from Oz. She will be joined onstage by Brian Gallagher as Kathie Lee's first husband, Paul, Charles Karel (Dear World) as Regis Philbin, Jan Pessano as Anita Bryant, Rob Sheridan as Frank Gifford, Paul Anthony Stewart (Fiddler on the Roof) as Larry Gatlin and Tia Zorne (Beauty and the Beast) as the Therapist.
The ensemble for She Can't Believe She Said That! comprises Laura Beth Wells, Daryl Getman, Dustienne Miller and Patrick O'Neill.
Josh Hecht (Christine Jorgensen Reveals) will direct the NYMF production with music direction by Howard Levitsky, orchestration by Frank Perri and choreography by Tara Jeanne Vallee.
The design team includes Raquel Davis (lighting design), Tei Blow (sound design), Robin Vest (scenic design), Jacob Hanson (properties), Ryan Rossetto (costume design) and Aaron Rhyne (video/projection design).
