Held from 1:30-3 PM, 35 professional and aspiring actors will have the opportunity to participate in the afternooon led by Duccio Bellugi-Vannuccini. The workshop will focus on Balinese dance theatre and Commedia dell'arte masks, as well as the use of music in improvisation. The Brooklyn College workshop marks the first time Le Théâtre du Soleil has offered such an event for New York artists. Le Théâtre du Soleil will hold additional workshops at Brooklyn College throughout the week with emphasis on mask work and improvisation using the text of Shakespeare's Macbeth and Twelfth Night.
Founded in 1964 by director Ariane Mnouchkine, the experimental Le Théâtre du Soleil earned critical praise for its productions of Le Dernier Caravansérail, presented as part of the 2005 Lincoln Center Festival. Their latest offering, Les Éphémères, continues at the Park Avenue Armory through July 19.
