London News Lee Mead Will Join Cast of West End Return of Sister Act Musical

Several current stars have also extended their runs in the musical at the Dominion Theatre.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Wicked, and Legally Blonde star Lee Mead will join the cast of the West End return of the Olivier-nominated Sister Act The Musical in June at the Dominion Theatre.

Mead will step into the role of Eddie Souther June 10, succeeding Clive Rowe, who will play his final performance June 8. Also departing June 8 will be Beverley Knight, who stars as Deloris Van Cartier.

As previously reported, the company will welcome a new Deloris June 10 when Alexandra Burke steps into the role. Producers also announced that Ruth Jones will continue as Mother Superior through August 3, while Lesley Joseph, who currently stars as Sister Mary Lazarus, will take over that part beginning August 5 through the final performance August 31.

Also extending their runs are Lemar as Curtis Jackson, Alison Jiear as Sister Mary Patrick, and Carl Mullaney as Monsignor O’Hara, who join previously announced continuing cast members Joseph as Sister Mary Lazarus (before taking over for Jones) and Lizzie Bea as Sister Mary Robert.

The company is completed by Caroline Bateson, Natalia Brown, Damian Buhagiar, Tricia Deighton, Lori Haley Fox, Lauren Hall, Chloe Hopcroft, Tom Hopcroft, Bradley Judge, Claudia Kariuki, Graham MacDuff, Castell Parker, Emma Ralston, Anne Smith, Michael Ward, and Jermaine Woods.

Bill Buckhurst directs the production, which began previews March 15 and officially opened March 21. The international hit musical also has choreography by Alistair David, set and costume design by Morgan Large, musical direction by Neil MacDonald, lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Tom Marshall, and musical supervision by Stephen Brooker. Casting is by Stuart Burt.

Based on the film of the same name, Sister Act features music by Tony and Oscar winner Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

The musical played Broadway's Broadway Theatre March 24, 2011-August 26, 2012, officially opening April 20, 2011. The New York production earned five Tony nominations, including Best Musical.

The musical tells the story of a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody, she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found: a convent.
