The album has sold 43,000 copies since it was released, with Anne Hathaway's version of "I Dreamed a Dream" ranking as the most popular of the tracks, selling 20,000 copies. The Les Misèrables soundtrack placed at No. 33 on the Billboard 200.

The film also enjoyed solid box-office grosses in its first few days of release, raking in a total of $75 million globally.

The 20-track album was released by Universal Republic. The album features live vocals recorded on set during the filming of the epic musical. It is currently available on iTunes, as well as Amazon.com, which is offering the full digital download for only $5. Billboard.com reports that the $5 Amazon.com offer fueled the digital download popularity. Digital downloads of the album accounted for 60 percent of the sales.

The film also boosted sales on earlier Les Misèrables cast albums, which placed on the Top Cast Albums chart this week. The original Broadway cast album was boosted to No. 2, the original London cast album is at No. 5, the 25th anniversary production album is at No. 7, the Royal Albert Hall concert album is at No. 8, and the highlights album from the original Broadway cast took the No. 10 spot.

Various Les Misèrables albums are available at PlaybillStore.com. The cast, including Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Aaron Tveit, recorded all of their singing live during filming, listening to piano accompaniment through a hidden earpiece. A 70-piece orchestra later gathered in London to record the full orchestrations that are featured in the film and on the soundtrack.

The movie also includes the new song "Suddenly" for Jean Valjean (Jackman) to sing. Producer Cameron Mackintosh previously told Playbill.com that the song "was something that Alain and Claude-Michel came up with, after a passage in the book, which beautifully explains what happens when [Valjean] takes Cosette from the inn and looks after her. Herbie's written a lovely lyric to it, and we're all delighted how it seems to fit into the film version."

The film, which arrived Christmas Day, stars Jackman as Valjean; Crowe as Javert; Hathaway as Fantine; Tveit as Enjolras; Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier; Amanda Seyfried as Cosette; Eddie Redmayne as Marius; Samantha Barks as Eponine; George Blagden as student Grantaire; Sacha Baron Cohen as Thenardier; and Daniel Huttlestone as child-hero Gavroche.
