If Colm Wilkinson's crystal voice on the original London cast recording of Les Miserables doesn't ring clear enough for you in 1998, you may wanto to consider the newly re-mastered version of the 13-year-old recording, due to be released on Relativity/First Night Records on May 19. First Night executive John Craig stated that the company had brought the recording up to date using state-of-the-art, 20-bit digital technology, thus enhancing the sound quality of Wilkinson, Patti LuPone and others.
Since Les Miz opened at London's Barbican on Oct. 8, 1985, there have been 29 different recordings of the score, which number does not even match the show's to-date 32 separate productions. Sales of the London album have exceeded three million worldwide.
