Performances begin June 30 for the LES Shakespeare Company production of a new adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone. The classic Greek tragedy is adapted and directed by Melody Erfani with choreography by Nick Neagle and original music by Lady and the Lion.

Performances are set to play through July 10 at Paradise Factory’s Upstairs Theatre as part of Planet Connections Festivity.

The cast features Adriana Bohmier, Patrick Falcon, Chantelle Goulevitch, Kevin Mackenzie Mejia, Mike Maloney, Emily Shankman, Jae Woo, Yokko and Zackery Betty.

In Antigone, the title character refuses to deny her brother a proper burial. Defying Creon’s orders, she alone buries him but must face his wrath as a consequence. He condemns her to death without knowing that Antigone has the gods on her side.

Founded in 2015, LES Shakespeare Company’s mission is to take an innovative approach to classic works and present them to New York’s Lower East Side community.
