Victory Gardens Theater will not be producing S.M. Shephard Massatt's new play, Levee James, after all. On April 1, the play was prematurely announced as part of next season's slate. The theatre later announced Levee James will be replaced by a play to be announced as VG's third production, Jan. 17-March 2, 2003. S.M. Shephard Massatt penned Waiting to be Invited, about African-American ladies who plan to eat at a whites-only lunch counter in the roiling era of Civil Rights, presented by Denver Center Theatre Company and later by VG.
The Tony Award-honored VG has announced four of six plays for next season, including Ann Noble's Ariadne's Thread, Douglas Post's musical God and Country, Claudia Allen's Unspoken Prayers and Lonnie Carter's Concerto Ring-0-Levio.
No reason was given for the change of plan. See our previous story.
