News Libby Purves, Chief Theatre Critic of The Times in London, Fired Libby Purves, who has been chief theatre critic of the Times in London since succeeding Benedict Nightingale in the post in 2010, has been let go from the job.

In a communication she issued to London press representatives, she commented, "I have to tell you that the acting editor of the Times Mr Witherow has decreed that he does not want me to continue as Chief Theatre Critic. This is not my decision in any way. At all. … I carry on reviewing and maintaining the lists until 11 October."

In a separate interview with The Stage newspaper in London, she commented, "I would hate to think that the Times would be any less full of theatre reviews. Dominic Maxwell [theatre editor at the Times] is an excellent theatre critic and I’m very much hoping he will pick up the slack or someone else will, but I know nothing about anyone else."
