Chicago News Lilli Cooper, Sarah Stiles, More Will Join Santino Fontana in Broadway-Bound Tootsie The musical adaptation of the 1982 film will feature a score by Tony-winning The Band’s Visit composer David Yazbek.

Casting is now complete for the world premiere of the new musical comedy Tootsie, based on the Oscar-winning film of the same name.

The musical adaptation will make its world premiere in Chicago September 11–October 14 at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre; a Broadway transfer will follow in spring 2019.

Joining the previously announced Tony nominee Santino Fontana as Michael Dorsey (a struggling actor who lands a job under the female persona "Dorothy Michaels") will be Lilli Cooper (currently on Broadway in SpongeBob SquarePants) as Julie Nichols, Tony nominee Sarah Stiles (Hand to God) as Sandy Lester, John Behlmann (Significant Other) as Max Von Horn, Andy Grotelueschen (Cyrano de Bergerac) as Jeff Slater, Julie Halston (You Can't Take It With You) as Rita Mallory, Tony winner Michael McGrath (Nice Work If You Can Get It) as Stan Fields, and Tony nominee Reg Rogers (Holiday) as Ron Carlisle.

The company will also include Sissy Bell, Barry Busby, Paula Leggett Chase, Britney Coleman, Leslie Donna Flesner, Jenifer Foote, John Arthur Greene, Drew King, Jeff Kready, Harris Milgrim, Adam Monley, Shina Ann Morris, James Moye, Katerina Papacostas, Diana Vaden, and Anthony Wayne.

David Yazbek, who won a Tony this year for his score for The Band’s Visit, will pen the score, while Robert Horn is attached as book writer. Scott Ellis will direct with choreography by Denis Jones and musical direction by Andrea Grody.

The creative team also includes scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designer Donald Holder, sound designer Brian Ronan, hair and wig designer Paul Huntley, and make-up designer Angelina Avallone. Casting is by Jim Carnahan C.S.A. Music supervision is by Andrea Grody and Dean Sharenow.

Tootsie is produced by Scott Sanders Productions and co-produced by James L. Nederlander and Sally Horchow.
