News Lily Savage Goes Head to Head With McKellen in London Battle of the Dames Ian McKellen won’t be the only pantomime dame in London this Christmas. Another, more frequent drag queen will be treading the boards in the comely form of Lily Savage.

The popular comic, aka Paul O’Grady, will star in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at the Victoria Palace Theatre between Dec. 17 and Jan. 23, 2005. The show is written by O’Grady, alongside Tudor Davies, Paul Elliott and Carole Todd. It is produced by Qdos Entertainment Theatres Ltd. and Paul Elliott. Todd directs, with designs by Alan Miller-Bunford and choreography by Colin Lang. Lighting is by Joe Atkins. The panto will incorporate spectacle in the form of an animatronic raven voiced by TV soap star Bill Dean, and a very surprising mirror. And there’ll be music when Savage sings “Put a Spell on You,” “Trouble,” “No More Mister Nice Guy” and “Female of the Species”. The rest of the 27-strong cast will be announced in September.

O’Grady’s previous West End outings have included playing the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the London Palladium. Christmas 2004, however, will see him in a head to head panto contest with McKellen’s Widow Twanky it the Old Vic’s Aladdin.
