According to the New York Times, Rebecca Robertson, the executive director of the redevelopment project, who has overseen it in the absence of a chair, is leaving to direct another project: the construction of a performing arts center at the Seventh Regiment Armory on Park Avenue.

The $500 million renovation of 65th Street, which runs through the center, will include the removal of the plaza that now casts a shadow over much of the street and new street-level entrances for Avery Fisher Hall, the Juilliard School, and other buildings.

Subsequent phases of the redevelopment project are also moving forward, according to the center. The Lincoln Center board has approved concept designs for a revamping of Josie Robertson Plaza, and Lincoln Center is working with the New York Philharmonic and architect Norman Foster on plans for a new hall built within the shell of Avery Fisher Hall.

In order to help fund the 65th Street renovation, Lincoln Center has issued $150 million of tax-exempt municipal bonds. The bond issue is the first ever for the center.
