Tony Award-winning actor Linda Lavin, veteran of 17 Broadway shows including Broadway Bound and It’s a Bird...It’s A Plane...It’s Superman, will give My Second Farewell Concert at Birdland Jazz Club in New York City July 24 at 7 PM.

A five-piece band led by Billy Stritch will accompany her on tunes drawn from the songbooks of writers from Cole Porter to Trisha Yearwood. She also plans to share stories of “her roots in the theater, her love of American standards, Steely Dan, and a life-long obsession with the big bands of the 1940’s.”

Lavin, who introduced the Strouse & Adams song “You’ve Got Possibilities” in the Superman musical, told Playbill, ”I’ll always sing ‘Possibilities’! That's what life is all about! I'll also be singing ‘They Can't Take That Away From Me’ with guest (jazz) violinist Aaron Weinstein, ‘Black Cow’ by Steely Dan, and Jobim‘s ‘Corcovado.’”

Her band will also feature Tom Hubbard on bass, Steve Bakunas on drums, and Ron Affif on guitar.

In addition to Superman, Lavin took over the role of Rose in the 1989 revival of Gypsy.

However, most of her New York stage work has been in comedies and dramas, including Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound, for which she won her Tony, plus Simon’s The Last of the Red Hot Lovers (Tony nomination), Jules Feiffer’s Little Murders, Wendy Wasserstein’s The Sisters Rosensweig, Charles Busch’s The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife (Tony nomination), Donald Margulies’ Collected Stories (Tony nomination), The Diary of Anne Frank (Tony nomination), and Nicky Silver’s The Lyons (Tony nomination).

Her TV sitcom Alice lasted for nine seasons, earning Lavin two Golden Globe awards and an Emmy nomination.

Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street in Manhattan. There is a $35/$45 cover plus a $10 food/drink minimum per person. Tickets can be ordered online at BirdlandJazz.com or by phone at (212) 581-3080. Dinner is served 5 PM–1 AM.
