News Lion King Will Roar Its Way Back to Toronto in April 2011 Disney's The Lion King will return to Toronto in spring 2011, playing the Princess of Wales Theatre, the same venue where the Canadian premiere of the hit musical played 2000-04.

The Tony Award-winning show inspired by the animated feature played 1,560 performances in Toronto, closing in January 2004. The latest engagement is part of the North American tour and will play five weeks beginning April 19, 2011.

This North American tour is currently one of seven productions running worldwide along with New York, London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Paris and Las Vegas. This is the North American tour's eighth year on the road. The touring production has been seen by over 12 million theatregoers and has grossed over $765 million to date.

Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for "The Lion King," the film. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, as well as Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.

Performances will play Toronto to May 22, 2011.
