Playwrights Horizons, the respected not-for-profit devoted to playwrights, composers, lyricists and new American works, welcomes Lisa Timmel as the new literary manager Sept. 16.

Current literary manager Sonya Sobieski, after nine years with the theater company, will depart to study playwriting with Mac Wellman at Brooklyn College.

Timmel most recently served as the literary associate at Classic Stage Company and is an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Andrea Watson-Canning has been named associate literary manager.

At Playwrights, the literary manager "oversees the daily operations of the literary office, which include evaluating and responding to the over 1,000 scripts that are submitted each year (Playwrights Horizons is one of the only major theatres in the country that accepts unsolicited manuscripts), producing a bi-monthly reading series, assisting in season planning and script development, scouting theatre and otherwise supporting new American playwrights."
