In February, Audible members will be able to listen to Mala, Melinda Lopez's acclaimed solo performance, for free during the entire month as part of the company’s Originals Member Benefit. In celebration of the release, Audible offers Playbill readers the chance to listen to an excerpt from the show in the clip below.

Mala, which was seen at ArtsEmerson in Boston in fall 2016 (as well as at the Guthrie and Huntington Theatre Company), is an autobiographical exploration of how we live, cope, and survive. In the monologue play, Lopez weaves tales of doctors and urgent 911 calls, a mother’s growing frailty, and a daughter’s quest for grace.

Previous theatrical productions that have been released on Audible include Dennis Kelly's Girls & Boys, performed by Carey Mulligan; David Cale's Harry Clarke, performed by Billy Crudup; Sharon Washington's Feeding the Dragon; and Alexandra Silber's After Anatevka. The audio storytelling company is currently operating out of The Minetta Lane Theatre Off-Broadway, its creative home for theatrical productions that will later be released on Audible.
