Classic Arts News L'Italiana in Algeri Opens Boston Lyric Opera's New Season Boston Lyric Opera opens its 2004-05 season tonight with a performance of the comic opera L'Italiana in Algeri by Gioachino Rossini.
The production features Phyllis Pancella as Isabella, Lawrence Brownlee as Lindoro, Eric Owens as Mustaf_, and Gary Lehman as Taddeo. Dean Williamson, in his BLO debut, will conduct.

BLO's season, which is themed "Flights of Fancy," features Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and East Coast premieres of both Rachel Portman's The Little Prince, based on the book by Antoine de Saint-Exup_ry, and Jonathan Dove's Flight. The season runs through mid-May.

The Little Prince is a co-production with the Wang Center for the Performing Arts. The opera's world premiere was at Houston Grand Opera in May 2003.

Boston Lyric Opera was founded in 1976. Opera New England, its educational and community programs division, presents fully staged operas to students and families throughout New England.
