Subtitled "A Musical Sex-Ed Escapade of Genetic Proportions," the musical will play five performances at The Player’s Theatre between Aug. 12 and 28. Swimming Upstream features music by Marshall Pailet, lyrics by Al Pailet and a book co-written by the two Pailets, who are father and son.

Directed and choreographed by Marlo Hunter, the musical will also star Doug Kreeger with Christopher Kale Jones, John Cameron Barnett, Heath Calvert, Andrew Grosshandler and Matt Owen. The creative team features Ben Cohn (music supervisor), Joseph J. Egan (set and costume design), Nathan Kelly (musical director) and Marshall Pailet (orchestrator).

Swimming Upstream, according to press notes, is set in a high school, "where 'life and death' decisions are made in online chat rooms, boys are conditioned to walk, talk and think alike, and the dreaded health class invokes tears of boredom. Enter Todd, a misfit, artsy student who has one lifelong dream: to write a musical. His golden opportunity finally presents itself with the announcement of the first-ever Judy Blick Baumgarten Initiatives in Health Awareness Award. With that, Todd sets out to create his magnum opus — a musical about the life of a sperm. His journey includes a Gilbert & Sullivan-esque exploration of foreplay, 'The Pirates of Mens-pants,' and a piece about the first biblical circumcision, 'Sacrifice.'"

Jessica-Snow Wilson has appeared on Broadway in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Les Misérables as well as the City Center Encores! production of Hair. Off-Broadway the actress was seen in Zombie Prom, I Sing and Me and Juliet. Wilson's other theatrical credits include The Wizard of Oz, Grease, Baby and Stars in Your Eyes.

Swimming Upstream will play Aug. 14 at 9:45 PM, Aug. 21 at 10 PM, Aug. 23 at 5:45 PM, Aug. 24 at 3 PM and Aug. 27 at 7 PM. The Players Theatre is located at 115 Macdougal Street. Tickets, priced at $15, will be available by calling (212) 279-4488 beginning Aug. 1. Visit www.swimmingupstreamthemusical.com for more information.
