There have been three film adaptations and several stage versions of "Little Women," Louis May Alcott's classic tale of four sisters on the verge of womanhood.
And now Little Women, an opera with music and libretto by Mark Adamo based on the Alcott novel, is to have its world premiere production Mar. 13 and 15 in Houston.
It is being performed by the Opera Studio, a division of the Houston Grand Opera that is dedicated to developing the talents and promoting the careers of young artists. The Studio last year gave the premiere of the Michael Daugherty-Wayne Koestenbaum opera Jackie O.
Adamo, a former music critic for the Washington Post, now lives in NY.
Little Women is being performed at the Cullen Theatre. For tickets to the Mar. 13 evening performance or Mar. 15 matinee, $16-$27, call (713) 227-ARTS or (800) 828-2787. -- By Rebecca Paller
