Liza Minnelli: Live in New York 1979

Liza Minnelli’s record-breaking September 1979 concert run at Carnegie Hall will be released by Real Gone Music in two formats July 1.

Although the 11-concert run was the basis for Minnelli's two-LP Live at Carnegie Hallthat 1981 recording was only sold at the Tony winner's live shows, never receiving a retail release. Newly titled Live in New York 1979, the recording will be available on two LPs or three CDs.

The LPs will be housed inside a gatefold jacket featuring original cover art by Andy Warhol. The insert has new introductions by both Minnelli and Michael Feinstein, both of whom serve as executive producers for this release, plus photos of the artist and liner notes from reissue producers Joe Marchese and Charles L. Granata. The LPs were remastered from the original tapes by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision.

Live in New York 1979: The Ultimate Edition's CD edition will include both Milchner’s remastered version of the original vinyl release on one disc, and two discs of the never-before-released complete show. This deluxe edition also features an expanded booklet with additional photos, liner notes, and tributes from Minnelli's friends and collaborators inside an eight-panel digipak including the Warhol portrait.

Among the songs not featured on the original album that will be included on the CD are James Taylor’s “Everybody Has the Blues,” Kander and Ebb’s “Arthur in the Afternoon” and “Mr. Cellophane” (the latter sung by future Dreamgirls star Obba Babatunde), a Minnelli/Babatunde duet of Cole Porter’s “You Do Something to Me,” the disco jam “Dance Across the Floor,” and a verse of “On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe.” These songs have been restored and mixed by engineer Ted Carfrae.
