Tonight, May 30, Liza Minnelli finishes her 3-day gig at San Francisco's Davies Symphony Hall, May 28-30. Liza In Concert also features male vocalists of the Cortes Alexander Trio (with musical director Bill LaVorgna), and Minnelli's 12-piece band joining the singer on showstoppers from her musicals and films, as well as specialty material.

Minnelli's October 1996 concert at NY's Westbury Music Fair (which featured the same personnel) offered the expected Minnelli hits ("New York, New York," "Cabaret") as well as numbers from her new album, "Gently" -- subtitled "The Makeout Album." Among the tunes on this Angel Records release are "I Got Lost In His Arms" (from Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun), "Embraceable You," a duet with Johnny Mathis on his "Chances Are," and a Herbie Hancock-arranged "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning."

A 19-year-old Minnelli won the Tony for her first Broadway starring role, in 1965's Flora, The Red Menace, though her most famous role was in Bob Fosse's film version of another Kander & Ebb musical, Cabaret. She also won an Emmy Award for her TV special, "Liza With a Z." She claims to be the only entertainer in history to sell out three full weeks at NY's Carnegie Hall.

Minnelli is, of course, the daughter of Judy Garland and film director, Vincente Minnelli.
