Next Chapter Podcasts debuts the first episode of Lloyd Suh’s modern verse translation of Shakespeare’s history play Henry V August 19.

The history play, which deals with themes of politics, legitimacy, power, and patriotism, is given voice by a cast featuring Steven Boyer, Andy Lucien, Colleen Werthman, Jeff Biehl, Brittany Kathryn Allen, Socorro Santiago, Paco Tolson, Lloyd Suh, Bobby Moreno, Brad Bellamy, Jordan Barbour, and Nikki Massoud.

Krista Williams directs. Original music, sound design, and sound mix for the production is by Shane Rettig. Julie Foh served as voice and text coach, while Sadaharu Yagi serves as sound engineer alongside mix engineer and dialogue editors Larry Walsh and Robert McNabb. Episode scripts were adapted and produced by Catherine Eaton, with Jordan Moore as script supervisor. Podcast mastering is by Greg Cortez at New Monkey Studio.

Producers for Henry V include coordinating producers Kyra Bowie and Leanne Keyes of Transcend Streaming, managing producer Robert Cappadona, and executive producer Michael Goodfriend. Casting is by The Telsey Office’s Karyn Casl and Ada Karamanyan.

Play On Shakespeare commissions contemporary playwrights and translators to update Shakespeare’s words into modern verse, “with a majority of commissions being helmed by BIPOC and womxn playwrights.” The translations are then presented as audio performances in episodic form, and are often accompanied by additional episodes that take listeners inside the play. Previous series include Macbeth, Pericles, Coriolanus, King Lear, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Twelfth Night. The podcast is available on Apple and Spotify.
