Many were concerned last week when UK musical impresario Andrew Lloyd Webber failed to attend the tenth anniversary celebrations for the Broadway production of Phantom of the Opera, held Monday 16 January. A spokesman for the Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group has confirmed to Playbill On-Line that Lloyd Webber is not seriously ill. He has received a clean bill of health after spending two nights in a London hospital undergoing a series of tests for a recurring abdominal condition. Feeling under the weather before the trip, Lloyd Webber's doctor advised him not to fly. His wife Madeleine Lloyd Webber attended the New York celebrations in his stead.

Lloyd Webber decided to take the precaution of having tests done given his busy schedule over the coming months. His 50th birthday on 22 March will be marked with several official celebrations in London, yet to be finalised. And he is also preparing for the West End opening of his latest musical, Whistle Down the Wind in July.

He was checked out of the London hospital last Wednesday, 28 January.
