The 7 PM event, which is staged by New York's ReGroup ensemble, promises highlights from the 23 plays presented by the Group Theatre in its decades-long history. Among the playwrights represented include Clifford Odets, John Howard Lawson, Paul Green, Dawn Powell and Sidney Kingsley.
Also participating will be Theater for the New City co-founder George Bartenieff, Paul Green Foundation executive director Marsha Warren and 20 members of the ReGroup ensemble, which was founded in 2010 to present plays originally produced by the Group Theatre.
The special event will also weave together the history of the Group Theatre and the lives of artists like Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Elia Kazan and Sanford Meisner, who helped define an era in American theatre.
Rarely-seen, unpublished plays scheduled to be performed include Nellise Child's Weep for the Virgins, Robert Ardrey's Casey Jones and Irwin Shaw's Retreat to Pleasure.
