News Lombardo's High, Starring Kathleen Turner, Arrives in St. Louis Oct. 13 Tony and Academy Award-nominated actress Kathleen Turner tests her faith as she attempts to help a young addict change his life in Matthew Lombardo's High, which begins performances Oct. 13 at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.

The three-person drama, which is aiming for a spring 2011 Broadway arrival, arrives at the Rep following a world-premiere run at Hartford TheaterWorks in July and an engagement at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park earlier this fall.

The St. Louis and Cincinnati runs represent revisions to the play since its Hartford debut. An official announcement of a Broadway run has not been made. Rob Ruggiero, who also staged Lombardo's Looped on Broadway, directs High, which will run through Nov. 7 in St. Louis.

In addition to Turner, High features newcomer Evan Jonigkeit as the young addict, with Tony nominee Michael Berresse ([title of show], A Chorus Line) as Connelly's colleague, Father Michael Delpapp.

"My greatest passion is developing new work in regional theaters around the country," Lombardo said in a previous statement to Playbill.com. "We learn a little bit more about the play at each venue. With High I have been specifically concentrating on deepening the relationships between the characters and clarifying the overall story arc." Ruggiero added, "Having nearly half a year for the actors to embody and breathe these characters, gives us the opportunity to further explore who these people are in relationship to themselves and one another."

Here's how the play is characterized: "When Sister Jamison Connelly (Turner) agrees to sponsor a nineteen year-old drug-user in an effort to help him combat his addiction, her own faith is ultimately tested. Struggling between the knowledge she possesses as a rehabilitation counselor and a woman of religious conviction, she begins to question the belief in miracles and whether people can find the courage to change. High explores the universal themes of truth, forgiveness, redemption and human fallibility." The design team includes Tony Award winner David Gallo (scenic design), Tony Award winner Jess Goldstein (costume design), John Lasiter (lighting design) and Vincent Oliveri (sound design).

Lombardo's Tallulah Bankhead-inspired work Looped played a brief Broadway engagement this season with Valerie Harper as the iconic actress. His plays also include the Katharine Hepburn bio-play Tea at Five.
