News London Kiss Me, Kate Extends Engagement

Kiss Me, Kate has just extended its booking period to March 1, 2003.

Still one of London's most popular musicals, this production at the Victoria Palace packs an energy and joie de vivre that is the hallmark of the best of Broadway shows, and as Broadway shows go, Kiss Me, Kate is a classic.

The American stars of Kate — Brent Barrett, Michael Berresse and Nancy Anderson — have extended their contracts at the Victoria Palace until August 24. When Marin Mazzie — who created the title role on Broadway — leaves the show at the completion of her contract, Carolee Carmello will play the role of Lilli Vanessi/Katharine for four weeks only from June 3-29, and Rachel York will then play the part from July 1-24 August 24. No word on casting after August.

It's a must see for fans of Cole Porter and those who like their Shakespeare (it is based on The Taming of the Shrew) made palatable by Cole Porter songs and a subplot involving gangsters.
