Not only is Chicago is a monster smasheroo, but Bugsy Malone opened to great acclaim at the Queen's Theatre on 21 November. There has been nothing but praise for the members of our National Youth Music Theatre, most of whom are under 17 years of age. In Bugsy they light up the stage as custard gun-toting gangsters and their molls.
The NYMT is a great organisation, a kind of English Fame. Kids from all over the country audition and it is run on completely professional lines (Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is their President). Most years their shows are presented in London and, because there is no pay roll, they can really stuff the stage full... No doubling required thank you very much. Bugsy has 80 kids on stage.
