He will join the previously reported Daniel Boys as Captain Walker, Hannah Jane Fox as Mrs. Walker and Zoe Birkett as The Acid Queen. Further casting has also been announced that will include David Hunter (a recent finalist in "Superstar," the reality TV show to find the actor to play the title role in the current arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar) as Cousin Kevin and Glenn Carter as Uncle Ernie.

Featuring music and lyrics by Pete Townshend, book by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, and additional music and lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon, this concert version will be directed by Raz Shaw, with choreography by Steve Kirkham, musical supervision by Iain Vince Gate, musical direction by Andrew Hilton and casting by Anne Vosser.

McElderry also won "Popstar to Opera Star" in 2011. His fourth album "Here's What I Believe" recently entered the Top 10 of the UK's official album chart. In a press statement, he commented, "I'm very excited to make my West End debut in the iconic rock opera Tommy, I have been waiting for a role that would challenge both my acting and singing skills, this has both. I am a big fan of The Who and it is incredible that Pete Townshend wrote this piece when he was 21, the same age as me."

This performance is in aid of the Pure Theatre Development Fund, which has been set up with the aim of funding the development of new writing in musicals and straight theatre. The fund will facilitate workshops and readings of new writing and will be launched in conjunction with this production. The show will also raise funds during the performance for Teenage Cancer Trust of which McElderry is an Ambassador.
