The limited London summer engagement of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, which was scheduled to star six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald, has been postponed.

Acclaimed singing actress McDonald and her husband, actor Will Swenson, are expecting a baby.

McDonald, who is currently starring in the Broadway production of Shuffle Along, Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, said in a statement, “Who knew that tap dancing during perimenopause could lead to pregnancy? Will and I are completely surprised—and elated—to be expecting a new addition to our family. I am so very grateful to everyone in New York and London for allowing me to rearrange my schedule to accommodate this little miracle. Of course, I’m disappointed I have to postpone my West End debut in Lady Day, but I look forward to rescheduling as soon as possible.”

The couple married in 2012. While this is their first child together, she is mother to a daughter, and he is father to two sons, from their previous marriages.

In related news McDonald will take temporary maternity leave from her starring role in Shuffle Along beginning July 24. She will return to the Tony Award-nominated musical this winter. During McDonald’s hiatus, the role of Lottie Gee will be played by Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens.

McDonald won her record-breaking sixth Tony Award for her performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day.

Lady Day was scheduled to run at Wyndham's Theatre June 25-September 3. For more information click here. Ticket purchasers should contact the Box Office or their supplier to arrange a refund.
