The previously announced debut London run of Green Day's American Idiot at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo has added a second week of performances. It will begin performances as previously announced Dec. 3, but will now play through Dec. 15.

Prior to London it will tour the U.K., beginning performances at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre Oct. 9, before going on to visit Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester and Birmingham.

In a previous press statement,Green Day's frontman Billie Joe Armstrong commented, "We're excited to be bringing the U.S. stage production of American Idiot to the U.K. and Ireland. We played to some of the most insane crowds when we toured the album there, and we can't wait for our friends across the pond to see the play."

American Idiot features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer and direction is by Mayer, whose work has previously been seen in the West End in transfers for Thoroughly Modern Millie and Spring Awakening. Songs featured in the score include "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "21 Guns," "Wake Me Up When September Ends," "Holiday" and the title track. There is also an unreleased love song, "When It's Time." 

The production also includes choreography by Steven Hoggett; music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt; scenic design by Christine Jones; and lighting design by Kevin Adams. The U.K. tour is produced by SJM Concerts and Flying Entertainment. The stage version of American Idiot originally premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009 before opening on Broadway in April 2010, where it ran for over a year.
