News   London's Avenue Q Closes Oct. 30 Prior to U.K National Tour
The West End production of Avenue Q shutters Oct. 30 after a four-and-a-half-year run prior to a U.K national tour.

Currently playing at Wyndham's Theatre, the musical originally opened at the Noel Coward Theatre in June 2006. A closing notice there for March 28, 2009, was subsequently rescinded, and the production merely went on a brief hiatus before resuming performances at the Gielgud Theatre June 1, 2009, where it played through March 13, 2010. It subsequently moved a third time to Wyndham's, where it began performances March 19.

In a press statement, Kate Monster commented, "We’ve had a great time, it's been a real ball, but I think we’ve all grown up and got our sights set on living in a more up-market part of town. And Trekkie Monster wants to be somewhere with a better broadband connection."

The tour will commence at the Theatre Royal, Bath in February 2011. The U.K. tour will be produced by Theatre Royal Bath Productions Ltd., by arrangement with Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre, The New Group and Cameron Mackintosh.

Avenue Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, and direction by Jason Moore. The puppets are conceived and designed by Rick Lyon. The production features musical supervision by Stephen Oremus and choreography by Ken Roberson. Avenue Q's scenic design is by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
