London News London's Guys and Dolls Revival Announces Final Performance Date

Nicholas Hytner directs the immersive production of the classic musical at the Bridge Theatre.

The Bridge Theatre's immersive production of the classic American musical Guys and Dolls has announced a final extension at the London venue with a closing performance set for January 4, 2025.

Since its 2023 opening, the production won Best Musical at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Best Musical Revival at the WhatsOnStage Awards, and the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Best Musical. At the April 14 Olivier Awards ceremony, the revival also picked up the Best Theatre Choreographer prize for Arlene Phillips and James Cousins.

Nicholas Hytner’s production currently stars Owain Arthur (One Man, Two Guvnors; The History Boys; Coffee Wars) as Nathan Detroit, Timmika Ramsay (Moulin Rouge!, Cinderella) as Miss Adelaide, George Ioannides as Sky Masterson, and Celinde Schoenmaker as Sarah Brown.

The cast also features Jonathan Andrew Hume (Come from Away) as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Ryan Pidgen (Matilda) as Benny Southstreet, Tori Scott (The Cher Show) as General Cartwright, Niall Buggy (To Kill A Mockingbird) as Arvide Abernathy, TJ Lloyd as Rusty Charlie, Cornelius Clarke as Lieutenant Brannigan, Cameron Johnson as Big Jule, and Dashaun Vegas as Harry the Horse.

The ensemble includes Katie Bradley, Tanisha-Mae Brown, Filippo Coffano, Eamonn Cox, Kamilla Fernandes, Alex Given, Lucie Horsfall, Hollie Jane Stephens, Dominic Lamb, Siân Nathaniel-James, Sophie Pourret, Nathan Rigg, Pierce Rogan, Samuel Routley, and Saffi Needham, and swings Iroy Abesamis, James Revell, Charlotte Scott, and Dale White.

Guys and Dolls opened at the London venue March 14, 2023, following previews that began March 3.

The first musical to be presented at The Bridge also has a set by Bunny Christie, choreography by Arlene Phillips and James Cousins, costumes by Deborah Andrews and Christie, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Arditti, musical supervision and arrangements by Tom Brady, orchestrations by Charlie Rosen, associate direction by Cousins and Lily Dyble, casting by Charlotte Sutton, fight direction by Kate Waters, and wigs, hair, and make-up by Campbell Young Associates.

Based on the story and characters of Damon Runyon, Guys and Dolls has music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

The original Broadway production opened at the 46th Street Theatre in November 1950, running 1,200 performances before closing November 28, 1953. Among the premiere cast were Robert Alda as Sky Masterson, Isabel Bigley as Sarah Brown, Sam Levene as Nathan Detroit, and Vivian Blaine as Miss Adelaide. Blaine re-created her role for the 1955 film, which also starred Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson, Jean Simmons as Sarah Brown, and Frank Sinatra as Nathan Detroit.

The Bridge staging features seating wrapped around the action while the immersive tickets transport audiences to the streets of Manhattan and the bars of Havana.
