News London's National Theatre Serves Up Dinner Nov. 18

The latest play to appear at the National Theatre's Loft, Dinner, by Moira Buffini, opens on Monday, Nov. 18.

Starring Harriet Walter (fresh from her triumph as Beatrice in the Royal Shakespeare Company's Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket) and directed by the author's sister, Fiona Buffini, Dinner is — not unlike Yasmina Reza's Life X 3 — about an unexpectedly nightmarish evening around the dinner table.

An artist, a scientist and a sexpot are coming to dinner. Paige (Walter), a hostess extraordinaire, is celebrating the publication of her husband's best-seller about the psychological apocalypse. The arrival of Mike, marooned in a foggy lane having crashed his van, provides an unexpected addition to the evening's entertainment. A silent waiter, sourced from an obscure website, completes the picture.
