International City Theatre has hired Gary Flaxman to fill the newly-created position of marketing director. Flaxman, a marketing and sales vet--and lifelong theatregoer--will work to build ICT's subscriber and audience base via a direct-mail campaign as well as via display ads, billboard ads, and ads on the backs of Long Beach buses and taxis.

"I've always felt that there aren't as many theatregoers as there should be," said Flaxman in a statement. "My charge is to change all that and to make ICT the household name it should be. ICT is one of America's leading regional theatres, based in a state-of-the-art facility with over 140 awards to its credit. Frankly, it doesn't get any better than this--but we need more people to be aware of it."

Flaxman has also introduced four discount packages that will be used during the remainder of ICT's 15th anniversary season at the Center Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. The season continues with Loot (Sept. 1-24), and the West Coast premiere of Beguiled Again (Nov. 10-Dec. 10), a revue based on the music and lyrics of Rodgers and Hart.

The discount packages include: Senior Sunday Six: groups of six or more seniors may purchase Sunday matinee tickets for $19 and receive the best seats available (regular ticket price $30-$35); Kids Night Free: kids ages 6-16 are free at Friday night performances if they bring along a parent, grandparent or other paying adult; Actor Appreciation Nights: members of actors' unions can show their cards at Thursday night performances and receive tickets for only $15; Pick a Pair: two productions for a bargain price.
