Charles Grodin — writer and star of stage and screen — performs in "An Evening of Humor" at the Long Wharf Theatre, Jan. 22.

The 7 PM benefit takes place at the New Haven, CT, company's Stage II. Proceeds will support Long Wharf's artistic mission.

Last seen at Long Wharf Theatre in a reading of his play The Prosecution of Brandon Hein, Grodin will return with "a witty and charming benefit performance, sharing stories of his adventures in show business — including his first Broadway performance, his collection of film roles, his turn as a '60 Minutes II' commentator, as host of his own 'The Charles Grodin Show' on NBC, and his recent success as a playwright and best-selling author," according to an announcement.

Grodin is known for his work as a film actor appearing in "Sex and the College Girl," "Rosemary's Baby," "Heaven Can Wait," "Midnight Run," "Taking Care of Business," "Beethoven" and "Dave." On Broadway, Grodin appeared in Tchin-Tchin, Absence of a Cello and Same Time, Next Year and directed Unexpected Guests, Lovers and Other Strangers and Thieves. His play, The Right Kind of People, played Off-Broadway at Primary Stages (January-March 2006) following its world premiere (November 2004) at San Francisco's Magic Theatre.

Currently playing at Long Wharf is A.R. Gurney's The Cocktail Hour (through Feb. 4). The season continues with the Dale Wasserman-Joe Darion-Mitch Leigh musical Man of La Mancha (Feb. 21-March 18), an as-yet untitled David Cale (Floyd and Clea Under the Western Sky) and Dael Orlandersmith (Yellowman) musical (March 28-April 29) and Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya (May 9-June 3, 2007) .
