The second annual Founder’s Gala at the Garry Marshall Theatre will honor Pretty Woman: The Musical producer Paula Wagner and agent/manager Rick Nicita November 13.

The non-profit theatre, previously the Falcon Theatre, was re-established in 2017 as the Garry Marshall Theatre in honor of the acclaimed filmmaker. The director of the 1990 film Pretty Woman always had Broadway dreams for the film, which originally starred Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The musical adaptation officially opened on Broadway in August 2018, starring Samantha Barks and Andy Karl.

The gala will feature Broadway talent, industry leaders, and members of the Los Angeles entertainment community celebrating wife and husband Wagner and Nicita, in recognition of their collaborations with Marshall, including Pretty Woman: The Musical, which has a book by Marshall and original screenwriter J.F. Lawton.

The evening will feature performances by original Hairspray star Tony winner Marissa Jaret Winokur and Paul C. Vogt, who replaced as Edna in Hairspray and was a staple in Marshall’s movies. The king of romantic comedies (including The Princess Diaries, Beaches, and Valentine’s Day), Marshall built the live arts facility to strengthen the community around the arts for future generations.

Pretty Woman: The Musical currently runs at the Nederlander Theatre, directed and choreographed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell. The production features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and Philip S. Rosenberg, sound design by John Shivers, hair design by Josh Marquette, and makeup design by Fiona Mifsud.
