Liza Minnelli will make two television appearances this week to promote her upcoming New York City concert engagement.
The internationally acclaimed singer-actress-dancer will sit down with Larry King on Thursday, May 23 on King's CNN talk show "Larry King Live." The broadcast will feature video footage from Minnelli's recent wedding to producer David Gest, and she will also perform a song from her new act live. King's show airs on CNN at 9 PM ET with a replay at midnight.
On Friday, May 24, Minnelli will chat with the gals of Barbara Walter's "The View": Lisa Ling, Joy Behar, Star Jones and Meredith Vieira. The ABC gabfest airs at 11 AM noon and replays on the A&E network at 6 PM ET.
As previously announced on Playbill On-Line, Minnelli will perform seven concerts at New York's Beacon Theatre beginning May 31. Produced and directed by Gest, Minnelli's new husband, Liza's Back! will premiere at the famed Beacon Theatre on May 31 and will play June 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 an 8. The New York engagement follows a critically hailed run at London's Royal Albert Hall. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (212) 307-7171 or by going on-line to www.cc.com. The Beacon Theatre is located in New York City at Broadway and 74th Street.
The Oscar-winning star of Cabaret was last on Broadway in a tribute to her late father entitled Minnelli on Minnelli, which she then took on a tour that was cut short due to poor health. In addition to her Tonys for Flora, the Red Menace and The Act, Minnelli was awarded a special Tony in 1974 for "adding lustre to the Broadway season." Her film credits include "The Sterile Cuckoo," "Arthur," "New York, New York" and "Stepping Out." The much-in-the-news performer is also a Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress. —By Andrew Gans
