Stage One, Louisville's professional family theatre company, opens a world premiere adaptation of Tom Sawyer Nov. 6 at the Bomhard Theatre in the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

James DeVita's script is based on the Mark Twain classic and is recommended for children 11 and older. It plays Nov. 6-14.

The mission of Stage One is "to provide high quality, entertaining, professional theatre for young audiences that develops the whole child, supports the learning environment and builds strong family bonds." The company performs in three venues: The Bomhard, the Kentucky Derby Museum and the Armory Street Theatre, Louisville Gardens.

The season opened Oct. 17-Nov. 1 with Lyle the Crocodile

Also on the 1998 Stage One season: The Legend of Darley, a participation play by Moses Goldberg at the Kentucky Derby Museum (Nov. 29-Jan. 9); The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at the Bomhard (Nov. 29-Dec. 13); Bridge to Terabithia at the Bomhard (Jan. 30-Feb. 21); The Tale of Jemima the Puddle-Duck at Armory Street Theatre (March 13-April 3); and Sir Gawain & The Green Giant at the Bomhard (April 25 & May 2).
